Our Story

Our Founder, Priscilla Matuki-Nyambu

didn’t set out simply to start a brand. She set out to solve a problem that many people with Afro-textured hair quietly accept as normal: tension pains, moisture-stripping fabrics, friction from poor materials, and the overwhelming dominance of low-quality polyester bonnets on the market.

As an Afro-textured hair enthusiast and trichology consultant, she knew our crowns deserved better care — especially while we sleep.

Like many great ideas, Bambou began in frustration.

Bonnets that itched.

Bonnets that slipped off in the night.

Bonnets that left deep marks across the forehead by morning.

And worst of all, the growing realisation that polyester — a fabric she already disliked in everyday clothing — dominated most hair protection products.

Night after night, the same question surfaced: Why are we protecting our hair with materials that don’t truly protect it?
That question became the seed that grew into Bambou.

Building Bambou was not a smooth or simple journey. Designs went back to the drawing board more times than expected. Funding had to be found. Time had to be stretched between clients, home life, and a growing vision.

As someone who naturally values discretion and privacy, the hardest hurdle of all was stepping forward publicly. Sharing the brand, speaking about the mission, and putting herself out there felt deeply uncomfortable. The fear of failing because of this was real and daunting. But the mission mattered more than the fear.

Bambou exists because everyone deserves better hair care.
Products should feel caring and loving to the body. They should support restoration, not work against it. They should provide peace of mind and long-term results that support healthy routines and meaningful self-care rituals.

This brand, like all of Priscilla's business ventures, was created to change the standard.

Bambou products are designed to transform the nightly routine from a chore into a moment of quiet luxury.

When you wake up with hair that feels softer, retains moisture, and requires less daily manipulation, you gain back time, confidence, and ease. Your mornings become simpler. Your styles last longer. Your relationship with your hair becomes one of joy.

Bambou was created so that caring for your crown can finally be filled with the love and intentionality it truly deserves.
